A driver of a vehicle carrying oversize freight that cannot be overtaken by other drivers is obliged to:
Official question from the Israeli Ministry of Transport pool · Category: Rules and Regulations
- Continue driving at normal speed, on the right side of the road. He is prohibited to pull down to the “hard shoulders”.
- Slow down, if possible, cross the road’s edge and even stop on the “hard shoulder”.
- Drive faster, so he doesn’t disturb the vehicles behind him.
- Stop his vehicle and signal to the other vehicles to pass him by.
Why this matters beyond the test: When overtaking is prohibited and what counts as a safe passing distance -- the rules behind one of the highest-risk maneuvers a driver makes on any two-way road.
